Our History
HOBY New York East has been shaping young leaders across Eastern New York for decades, empowering high school sophomores to develop their leadership skills and make a lasting impact in their communities. As part of the national Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) organization, our seminar has a proud legacy of inspiring thousands of students to embrace leadership, service, and innovation.

Our program began as part of HOBY’s nationwide effort to cultivate a new generation of leaders, and over the years, HOBY New York East has grown into a thriving hub of passionate volunteers and engaged alumni. Each year, we bring together students from across our region for a transformative weekend seminar filled with interactive workshops, inspiring guest speakers, and hands-on service projects. Guided by dedicated alumni and volunteers, our participants leave the seminar with a renewed sense of purpose and the skills to become changemakers in their schools and communities.

From our early days to today, HOBY New York East continues to evolve while staying true to our mission: to motivate and equip young people with the tools to lead with integrity, compassion, and innovation. Our alumni network remains active and engaged, paying it forward as volunteers, mentors, and leaders in their own communities. As we look to the future, we remain committed to providing an inclusive and impactful experience that empowers the next generation of leaders in Eastern New York.
