HOBY NYE Alumni Association Executive Board Position Summaries

President – As President of the Alumni Association you are to keep open lines of communication with all HOBY Alumni and Staff. You are to bring new ideas to the group and help facilitate the work of the Area Clubs in order for them to accomplish their goals. You are to organize and run Alumni Association Meetings. Your primary job is to mentor the Area Club presidents and keep alumni enthusiastic about the activities and events. Must be a second year alum or older.

Vice President – As Vice President you work with the President and all other Alumni Officers to organize projects and events, help the president come up with new ideas, and assist with mentoring the Area Club Presidents. You should be encouraging alumni participation with projects. Must be a first year alum.

Secretary – You are organized. As Secretary you keep minutes from all E-Board Meetings, and after the meetings you should type the minutes and send them to the Alumni Advisor. Keep track of what is going on in each area and help come up with new ideas. You will work closely with the Public Relations officer to develop content for advertising, etc. and with the Alumni Advisor to create Alumni Association reports. All alumni are eligible.

Public Relations – ADVERTISE! Make flyers for events and send them to the Advisor to get them posted on the website. Make sure the website, social media, and any other networking is being used to advertise for events in order for maximum turnout at events. All alumni are eligible.

Area Club President – The main purpose of the Area Club president it to keep alumni in their respective area active. Keep communication lines between yourself and the E-Board open in order to complete projects and get new ideas. You will be the bridge between the E-Board and the alumni from your area, and as such you will be responsible for keeping them informed and involved. Work on completing the 1:1:1 challenge, meaning one social event, one service project, and one CLeW in each area. 1:1:1 should not limit you, but it should guide you. Do service projects and social events. If there is already a CLeW established in your area keep it going! If not, check out the planning guide and try to get one set up in your Area. Once elected it is recommended that you recruit a group of alumni to assist you (perhaps as a mini-board). All alumni are eligible.

Spring CLeWs Scheduled for Areas 1, 3, and 5!

The Spring CLeW (Community Leadership Workshop) season is already upon us, and we’re excited to introduce OUTSTANDING high school freshmen around eastern New York State to HOBY!  Our annual Area 3 CLeW will be held Saturday, March 1st at Shaker Junior High School in Latham, NY, followed by an Area 1 CLeW on Saturday, March 22nd at SS Seward Institute in Florida, NY and an Area 5 CLeW on April 26th at Ballston Spa Middle School in Ballston Spa, NY.

The Community Leadership Workshop (CLEW) is HOBY’s introductory one-day leadership program for high school freshmen. A typical CLeW is six to ten hours long, with 50-100 freshmen participants, and focuses on leadership as a discipline to be explored and learned.

HOBY CLeW students interact with local community leaders, participate in group activities, and conduct community service projects. CLeWs are organized, developed, and implemented by HOBY alumni in conjunction with HOBY volunteers, local business leaders, and civic groups.

Are you a high school freshman who is interested in signing up to attend a CLeW?  Are you a HOBY alumnus, HOBY volunteer, or community member who is considering planning a CLeW for high school students in your community?  Contact Terrance McNally at chair@hobynye.org to learn more.

Community Leadership Workshop (CLeW) announced for Shaker High School

The Community Leadership Workshop (CLeW) for Shaker High School is scheduled for March 1, 2014.

A CLeW is a one-day introductory HOBY leadership training for high school freshmen. CLeWs provide face-to-face interaction between freshmen students and distinguished leaders from all walks of life. Students participate in team-building activities, take part in community service projects, and listen to presentations given by motivational speakers and local community leaders. CLeWs are initiated and organized by HOBY’s own alumni and/or members of the community, and are sponsored by local service clubs or companies.
